The Department of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering (CEIE) is an internationally recognized program leading the engineering profession with the expansion of knowledge through research and scholarship. Our core mission is to educate civil engineers as visionary stewards of society.

As a key driver in Virginia’s economic engine, CEIE builds upon its foundation in urban infrastructure engineering to lead in the development of sustainable cities and villages through innovation, research and practice. CEIE attracts and educates Virginia’s best performing students as well as national and international undergraduate and graduate students who are eager for these challenges. CEIE students are opportunity seekers who are prepared to develop and implement innovative and successful solutions to today’s complex and multi-disciplinary engineering challenges.
