The GMU ASCE Student Chapter competed in the 2012 Virginia’s Conference March 30-April 1 at Virginia Tech. Twenty of our CEIE students, accompanied by their advisor Dr. Liza Wilson Durant, competed in civil engineering related contests against more than 12 colleges and Universities from across Virginia, Washington, DC and West Virginia. GMU brought home a second place in the Green Concrete Bowling competition, third place in the Sustainable Development competition and first place in the T-shirt Design competition. The team’s greatest achievement was the design and assembly of a steel bridge which was one of only two bridges in the competition to pass the 2000 lbs load test. The GMU ASCE team would like to recognize the Civil Engineering Institute and Cives Steel for their generous support of their participation in the Conference.
