Dr. Ferreira’s Class Visits the Flood Protection System of the White House and Federal Triangle

Dr. Celso Ferreira’s CEIE340 Water Resources class met on the National Mall last  week.  After almost a full semester learning about water resources engineering, the class met at the Lincoln Memorial to tour the existing and newly constructed flood protection measures for the White House and the Federal Triangle.  The existing levee that was designed to protect the area for a 100 year return period flood is being extended with the construction of a flood wall on 17th Street and Constitution Avenue. Students had the opportunity to visualize the infrastructure at risk, understand the flooding threats and learn more about the current flood protection structures besides visiting the construction site of the new flood wall.
