Kelsey Ryan, a sophomore in CEIE, was honored by Provost Stearns in February for combining outstanding academic performance with excellence in athletics. Kelsey practices 20 hours per week with the winning GMU women’s swim team, and competes (and wins) in butterfly and back stroke. She combines this demanding practice schedule with outstanding academic performance in her civil engineering studies. While Kelsey is still early in her studies, she is attracted by the importance of transportation to the nation’s civil infrastructure and she may specialize in transportation engineering. She plans to take advantage of the accelerated BS-MS program to jump-start her career as a professional engineer.
