Congratuations to Javad Esfandiari who received a scholarship from the National Capital Section of the American Concrete Institute. The award was presented by David Lange, FACI, incoming President of the American Concrete Institute. Javad has been active in research, teaching, and service activities related to reinforced concrete. His paper on “Optimum Design of 3D Reinforced Concrete Frames using DMPSO Algorithm” was published in Advances in Engineering Software, and his second paper on “Optimization of Reinforced Concrete Frames Subjected to Historical Time-History Loadings using DMPSO Algorithm” is under second-round review at Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization. Furthermore, he will be delivering a presentation at the 13th World Congress on Computational Mechanics/2nd Pan American Congress on Computational Mechanics in New York City. He was an organizing committee member of the 18th International Congress on Polymers in Concrete held in Washington DC this year. Javad has continued to serve as a teaching assistant for structures courses at GMU, including reinforced concrete design.
