On February 18, the Volgenau School celebrated Engineer’s Week with an all day celebration called “Engineer’s Day” in Dewberry Hall. The highlight of the event was the 4th Annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Contest for High School Students. Twenty Nine bridges entered the competition for prizes based on the best combination of ultimate strength and visual appeal as well as special award categories. With a bridge weighing only 347 grams, the team led by Adrian Salmon of McClean High School took first place with an impressive 248 lb ultimate strength and also the award for highest load. Other winners were from Chantilly High School including “Team Easton” (David Cooper, Kevin Nguyen, Aaron Reilly, and Alek Hagopian) pictured at right with Dr. Casey. Many staff and students volunteered to run the event including several members from the GMU ASCE Student Chapter.
