CEIE Graduate Student Research Wins Statewide Prize

CEIE MS students Lindsay Gardner and Gary Gardner, represented GMU at the 2011 WaterJAM convention held in Virginia Beach this September. WaterJAM is the Joint Annual Meeting of the Virginia Water Environment Association (VWEA) and the Virginia Section of the American Water Works Association (VA AWWA). Professional Engineers working full time for Dewberry, the students were both selected to present their research projects on the performance of various low-technology methods for improving the quality of drinking water in developing countries. The research was done for the CEIE course, Sustainable Water Resources Infrastructure in Developing Countries, taught by Dr. Barry Liner. Lindsay was the winner of the top prize in the Young Professionals Poster Session. The AWWA award includes $1,000 and the opportunity to represent Virginia, CEIE, and Mason at AWWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE12) to be held in Dallas, Texas in June, 2012.
