DBIA Students Win SoM Prize for Developing New Technology

Students Scott Bauer and Tyler Malejko won the coveted Audience Choice Award (and $1000) for their entry in the GMU School of Management Dean’s Business Plan Competition on November 9th.  Their start-up, the Cross Over Door Company (CODC), has developed a proprietary technology for round-the-corner garage doors.   Whereas these doors are used in other countries for reasons including their adaptability and convenience, they have not been available within the United States because of an entrapment safety concern from Underwriters Laboratories, an industry leader in product safety certification.  The exclusive technology developed by CODC eliminates the entrapment problem while avoiding cost-prohibitive add-ons.  CODC will license this technology to garage door manufacturers for U.S. sale.  The GMU School of Management Dean’s Business Plan Competition, new this year, encourages students to move technology from the drawing board into a business, by encouraging entrepreneurial and practical business planning.  This was the first entry from a CEIE student.
