CEIE welcomes two new full-time faculty this fall!
Dr. Behzad Esmaeili holds a B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from the Amirkabir University, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Before joining George Mason University, Dr. Esmaeili was an Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction. He actively conducts research in the field of construction safety, specializing in injury prevention strategies, hazard identification, risk management, and decision making. During his Ph.D. and Postdoctoral work, he used a variety of qualitative and quantitative data-collection, data-analysis, and data mining methods. His research has resulted in multiple articles published in the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering, and Routledge Journal of Construction Management and Economics. Students will have the opportunity to study with Dr. Esmaeili in his offering of Construction Systems in Fall 2017
Dr. Kuo Tian holds a B.E. degree in Civil Engineering form Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and MS and PhD degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Before joining the Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering as an assistant professor of geotechnical engineering, Dr. Tian served as a Research Scientist and Lecturer at the University of Virginia. Dr. Tian’s research in geoenvironmental engineering is focused on the design and evaluation of environmental containment systems for municipal, hazardous, and radioactive wastes, as well as innovative geomaterials for sustainable construction applications. His research includes fundamental laboratory studies, practical field experiments, and the development of computer models.
