Dr. Changwoo Ahn is an associate professor in Environmental Science and Policy at GMU, where he runs Ahn Wetland Ecosystem Laboratory. His research interests and experiences include ecological functions of created/restored wetlands, wetland system ecology, water quality, wetland creation and restoration, nutrient dynamics (N, P), ecosystem services, and ecological modeling. He also has recently applied the techniques of environmental molecular biology to study the dynamics of soil microbial community in wetlands. He has been an associate editor for the journal “Ecological Engineering -the journal of ecosystem restoration (Elsevier)” and is currently a Book Review Editor. He is also a reviewer for 18 other environmental and ecological journals and for national organizations like EPA, NSF, USGS, and USDA. His work and opinion have been featured on a variety of outlets from Nature to The Washington Post. He has also built an outdoor research and teaching facility “Wetland Mesocosm Compound” on the west campus inside the Intramural Complex at GMU. He earned his Ph.D at the Ohio State University, followed by postdoctoral work at U of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Illinois Water Resources Center).
