Dr. Jung is a full-time professor at the Department Civil Engineering and the Director of International Water Resources Research Institute in Chungnam National University, Korea. He earned his B.S. degree from the Department of Civil Engineering at Chunbuk National University, Korea, in 1986, and the M.S. and Ph. D. degrees in the Department of Civil and Engineering Mechanics at University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, USA in 1989 and 1993, respectively. He has been a visiting scholar in advanced research technology laboratory at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, USA, in 1993-1994. Also, he had been a senior researcher at the Korea Water Resources Research Institute, which is the largest governmental water-related research institute in Korea, from 1995 to 1997.

Since 1997, he has been teaching fluid mechanics, hydraulic engineering, hydraulic engineering design, hydraulic engineering laboratory, hydrology, water resources engineering, water resources system analysis, modeling of small watershed hydrology, river ecological hydraulics, analysis of sediment transport in open channel, etc., to both undergraduate and graduated students at the Department of Civil Engineering at Chungnam National University.

He is actively participating in research related to rainfall-sediment-runoff, numerical and physical modeling in large scale watersheds, riverbed stabilization techniques in river system as the project team of green technology for maintenance and management of hydraulic structures and river channels, and as the project team of the technical development against flood according to a change of future environment under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. He is also participating in research regarding numerical and physical modeling of landslides due to rainfall variations as the project team leader of development of landslide risk analysis system by a coupling of short-term rainfall forecasting method and distributed hydrological-geotechnical model under the National Research Foundation of Korea.

He has published about 315 research papers in domestic and international conferences/journals, and has received numerous best research paper awards from academic societies. He also received the Minister’s awards three times, and President’s award for services in many different governmental organizations as a committee member in Korea.
