Society of American Military Engineers (SAME)

The Society of American Military Engineers GMU Student Post is open to students in the Volgenau School of IT and Engineering. The first question that most students ask themselves when it comes to SAME is, “I am not military; so how can I join SAME?” The answer to that question is simple: you do not have to be military, you do not have to be American, and you do not even have to be an engineer to join SAME.

SAME brings together professional engineers and those in engineering-related fields:

  • To improve and increase the engineering capabilities of the nation;
  • To exchange and advance the knowledge of engineering technologies, applications, and practices;
  • To promote fun and fellowship, add those important professional and business contacts, and end up enhancing our profession, the military and the Nation.

The SAME George Mason University Student Post (or student chapter) is strongly supported by the professional society’s Northern Virginia Post. Through this partnership, the NOVA Post has many benefits to offer the students of George Mason University: scholarships, networking, internships, future full-time opportunities, and mentoring and training from local engineering firms. Of the 16 sustaining member firms of the SAME NOVA Post, approximately 15 of them hire civil engineers – find out who they are at http://www.novasame.org
